The Aim of DSG is to provide opportunities for disabled people, their carers and the elderly, to meet other disabled and elderly people in their local area.
Peer support is important for disabled and elderly people and can be
a liberating experience.
We propose to develop an umbrella organisation that will create several
self-help groups and provide them with ongoing support.
Each group will be user-led, its aims and objectives reflecting the needs of
members.DSG will help each umbrella group to deliver the services and activities
that matter most to them.
Typically this will include information exchange sessions through presentations
and guest speakers, such as police, fire brigade and alternative therapist.
We will help with away days and social events where people can share advice,
information and experiences, or simply meet and socialise with others, reducing
the isolation that many disabled and elderly people face.
